Big Game Hunting

Mountain Ridge Trophy Hunting offers three to ten days hunting, Red Stag, Wapiti-Elk Bull, Fallow Buck, Whitetail, Tahr, Chamois, Wild Boar, Arapawa Ram and Alpine Goat, in some of the most breathtaking country you will see in New Zealand.

Hunt Red Stag and Wapiti-Elk Bull from March to May when they are in full rut bugle.  Fly in a helicopter into the alpine for Tahr and Chamois. Hunts can be with rifle, bow or black powder. We can make up a package deal to suit you, just ask for the many packages we have to offer.

We recommend your calibre be from .270 upwards.  Popular calibre's are 7mm Mag and 300 Win Mag.  Your rifle should have a quality variable power scope.  Also a soft carry case for you rifle when travelling to and from your days hunt.  If you do not wish to bring a rifle with you we can supply you with one of our many quality calibre rifles.

Included in your Big Game Hunt is pick up and drop off at Christchurch Airport, your accommodation, guiding fees, home cooked meals and refreshments, all field prep for taxidermist, New Zealand Government Taxes.

Not included are New Zealand firearm permit, daily rate, before and after accommodation, airfare, taxidermy charges and gratuities.

What to Bring

The single most important thing that you need to bring with you is quality mountain hunting boots.  As your hunting experience will vary from rolling hill country to steep scrub covered mountains you need the support of well broken in mountain boots.  You may wish to bring a second lighter pair just for the low country.  Other essential items to bring are:-

• Quality wet weather suit
• Warm hunting jacket, gloves and hat (this can be arranged for you on arrival in New Zealand)
• Small day pack
• Camera and binoculars

Bird Hunting

Spend five days experiencing some of the best wing shooting New Zealand has to offer.  Hunt Mallard and Paradise Ducks on our private ponds and wetlands as well as hunting geese and turkeys with our experienced guides.  Shoot Pheasant and Quail on our private game ranch.

Included in this experience is your accommodation, airport transfers, guiding fees, home cooked meals, refreshments and New Zealand Government taxes

We recommend 12g semi auto five shot shotguns which are best for wing shooting in New Zealand.  We can supply you with a shotgun if you don’t want to bring one with you.  We can supply ammunition too, just ask for prices.
